Why do we call up-to-the-minute information the news?
News is reported from all around the world, and that’s why some people think that the letters in the word news stand for north, east, west and south. But that’s not really where the word came from. In the Old English language, there was a word spelled niwe, which meanings “something you haven’t heard before”, and it is pronounced in the same way we say new today. We just changed the spelling to make it more modern.
Nowadays it seems as if there is more and more bad news. We hear about them but feel helpless to change them and hopeless that it will change on its own. We don’t have the power that God has. God’s Good news will always be true, and helpful and healing to every human being. His news was not brought to us by television but by an angel, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. “(Luke2:10-11). Jesus came to earth so that you would always have good news in your life. And that’s the kind of news that you’ll want to spread.
